Mudgee Public School students had the incredible opportunity to participate in traditional dance workshops led by Jo, a proud Wiradjuri woman born on Dharug Country. The workshops were inspired by “Wagana”, meaning “dancing now” in Wiradjuri.
Students from all grades immersed themselves in the rich traditions of music, song, and dance connected to fire, river, and totem stories. They explored the importance of introducing themselves to Country, practiced strength-building dances, experimented with ochre, and moved to powerful rhythms while Jo’s beautiful vocals set the tone.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Mudgee AECG for making this invaluable cultural experience possible. A huge thank you to Jo and Paul for sharing their knowledge and talents—we can’t wait to welcome them back again soon!
